FCC Enviro strengthens its presence in the US with the acquisition of a Waste-to-Energy facility in Florida

FCC Environmental Services, subsidiary of FCC enviro and one of the largest comprehensive waste management and recycling companies in the United States, continues to strengthen its presence in the US market with the acquisition of Wheelabrator South Broward Inc., owner of the South Broward Waste-to-Energy Plant located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and previously owned by WIN Waste Innovations.

This acquisition marks the strategic expansion of FCC Environmental Services in the country's waste-to-energy sector and represents a pivotal step forward in boosting the company's waste management capabilities. The South Broward plant, which has been operational since 1991, processes approximately 824,000 tonnes of non-recyclable domestic and commercial waste per year, directly reducing landfill dependency. Through its efficient combustion process, the facility generates enough renewable energy to power over 41,000 homes and local businesses and recovers around 15,000 tonnes of metals per year for further recycling.

FCC Environmental Services draws on the extensive global experience in the energy recovery of non-recyclable waste from its parent company, FCC enviro, which has been carrying out this activity for more than 50 years. The company currently has 13 waste-to-energy projects that process 3.8 million tonnes of waste per year and generate a total of 410 megawatts of non-fossil electricity.

Florida remains FCC enviro's largest operating hub in the United States, where it currently serves more than 900,000 residential homes and thousands of commercial customers. With this addition, FCC Environmental Services further strengthens its position as a sustainability leader, delivering end-to-end solutions to meet the growing demand for environmentally responsible waste management services.
